چکیده

Different types of excitawry amino acid receptors probably exe t tw specific fiaw~onal roles within the manunaban CNS. t..Glutamate may be the trammitter at all of these receptors, with extracellul+w Mg z + regulating the sensitivity of one particular receptorionophore system. As Jeff Watkins explains, this probable role of L-glutamme remains unproven. But progress is being made in characterizing the receptors with which it is proposed to interact. Thiv has led to the devdopment of pharmacological ligunds which may, in the future, form the basis of a new class of centrally .acting drugs.

P24: The Role of Ionotropic Glutamate Receptors in the Induction of LTP

Long-term potentiation (LTP) is a reflection of synaptic plasticity that has an important role in learning and memory. LTP is a long-lasting increase of synaptic activity due to enhancement of excitatory synaptic transmission after a high-frequency train of electrical stimulation. The role of α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) receptors in excitatory synaptic tran...

Neurotransmitter and neuromodulator activity in the gustatory zone of the nucleus tractus solitarius.

The rostral nucleus of the solitary tract (rNST) is the first central relay in the gustatory pathway. While previous investigations have provided a wealth of information on the pattern of central terminations of gustatory afferent fibers, the morphology of synaptic connections of rNST neurons and responses of second order neurons to taste stimuli applied to the tongue, little is known regarding...

(S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine )an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors( induced synaptic potentiation at excitatory synapses on fast spiking GABAergic cells in visual cortex

Introduction: (S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine (DHPG) is an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors. DHPG-induced synaptic depression of excitatory synapses on hippocampal pyramidal neurons is well known model for synaptic plasticity studies. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of DHPG superfusion on excitatory synapses on pyramidal and fast-spiking GABAergic cel...

Parawixin1: a spider toxin opening new avenues for glutamate transporter pharmacology.

Glutamate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system. After release from glutamatergic nerve terminals, glial and neuronal glutamate transporters remove glutamate from the synaptic cleft to terminate synaptic transmission and to prevent neuronal damage by excessive glutamate receptor activation. In this issue of Molecular Pharmacology, Fontana et al. (p. 12...

Effects of Ketamine on Neuronal Spontaneous Excitatory Postsynaptic Currents and Miniature Excitatory Postsynaptic Currents in the Somatosensory Cortex of Rats

Background: Ketamine is a commonly used intravenous anesthetic which produces dissociation anesthesia, analgesia, and amnesia. The mechanism of ketamine-induced synaptic inhibition in high-level cortical areas is still unknown. We aimed to elucidate the effects of different concentrations of ketamine on the glutamatergic synaptic transmission of the neurons in the primary somatosensory cortex b...
